Eurasian Resources Group is one of 1,000 international business leaders to have pledged support to a call from the United Nations for inclusive multilateralism. The official Statement from Business Leaders for Renewed Global Cooperation was endorsed by ERG as the United Nations marked its 75th anniversary. CEO of ERG Benedikt Sobotka signed the statement on behalf of the Group, commenting on the increased need for cooperation and collaboration among the global business community during this time of upheaval caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr Alexander Machkevitch, ERG’s Chairman of the Board, commented: “It is with great pleasure that we are joining more than 1,000 global companies to pledge support for multilateralism on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations. Our endorsement of renewed global cooperation and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals is testament to the progress ERG has made in achieving good governance, ensuring transparency and addressing systemic inequalities in the countries in which we operate in recent years.”
As a signatory of the statement, ERG has made several commitments. These include agreeing to partner with the United Nations, civil society and governments to respect human rights, promote equality, strengthen access to justice, provide legal certainty, and ensure transparency and accountability in business practices.
ERG will further demonstrate good governance and ethical leadership through values-based policies, strategies, relationships and operations when engaging with all stakeholders. Investment will be made at all levels of business in addressing systemic injustices and inequalities through decision-making processes that are inclusive, representative and participatory.
In addition to these commitments, Eurasian Resources Group calls on governments to uphold the rule of law, protect human rights, and ensure security and peace so that businesses, societies and individuals can prosper; create an enabling environment which strengthens international co-operation, implements strong legal frameworks, and serves the interests of planet and people, purpose and prosperity; and to build resilience and combat corruption at every level through enhanced global governance and multilateralism to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
Since 2019, ERG has been a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact, which includes a commitment to advance the Ten Principles of the Compact. These focus on anti-corruption measures, human rights, the environment and labour. The corporate mission of ERG ties in with these principles, with a strong focus on holding true to the company’s values while driving global change and guaranteeing that those reliant on ERG are ensured prosperity.
Once signed, the statement of support was presented to the Secretary-General of the UN as part of a high-level meeting celebrating the UN’s 75th anniversary and the Global Compact’s 20th anniversary. The Executive Director and CEO of the UN Global Compact presented the statement, along with the full list of over 1,000 signatories.
